History of the .32 Smith & Wesson Long cartridges:

.32 Smith & Wesson Long, also called the .32 Colt New Police (Not .32 Colt) and .32-44 Target was developed for the Smith & Wesson first model, solid frame revolver introduced in 1903.

It was later chambered in the Harrington & Richardson (H&R) and Iver Johnson revolvers and some European countries.

This cartridge is considered the smallest cartridge adequate for police use in the USA and is still used by detectives and plain clothes officers.
