The 7mm SAUM or 7mm Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum was introduced sometime between 2001 to 2003 (depending on what article you read) by Remington Arms Company.

It was introduced in respond to the 7mm Winchester Short Magnum, one of the 7 new Winchester Short Action calibers, at the time.
