History of the .44 Auto Mag cartridge:
Famous due to the movie: Beverly Hills Cop, the .44 Auto Mag cartridge was designed by the late Harry Sanford, (Auto Mag Corporation President in California) and the cartridge was introduced in 1971 for the 44 AMP pistol (Auto Mag Pistol).
Only 3,000 pistols were produced and the company declared bankruptcy in 1972.
The cartridge is basically a 30-06 or .308 case, cut down and trimmed to a length of 1.298 inches
It is basically a rimless .44 Magnum cartridge and has almost the same ballistics.
Other then custom made cartridges from 30-06 or 308 cases, the only production loaded ammunition was by Norma of Sweden and CDM (Cartuchos Deportivos Mexico) and SBR.
